What inspired you to train as a teacher?
I wanted a career, but I also need that career to be rewarding and challenging. So far, my NQT year has certainly been both! I am so glad that I followed my dreams of becoming a teacher because I love coming to work every day and seeing how well my students have come along from what I have taught them. I have also enjoyed promoting a love for learning. There's something really inspiring about watching children learn.
Why did you choose Endeavour for your teacher training?
I felt so at home as soon as I arrived. The staff were so welcoming and I knew I only wanted to train with Endeavour once I'd attended for an interview. I also really liked the layout of the course and felt it was really well organised and thorough.
What was the best thing about the programme?
I was treated like a real teacher. The students weren't told that I was a trainee and I felt this really helped with my confidence. My mentors were really supportive and encouraged me to teach in a way that suited me as an individual. I was lucky enough to get a job at the same school where I was placed for Placement A, and I couldn't ask for a better school to start my career. The quality of teaching is exceptional and I am honoured to say I work here.
What impact has the SCITT had on your career as a teacher?
I feel I was given the best possible start. There wasn't anything that wasn't covered (they literally thought of everything!). By the time I finished my training year and September was approaching, I couldn't wait to get started. I always remember being told that 'you are always learning as a teacher' and there's 'always room for improvement'. I like that we were encouraged to try new things and if they didn't work then this would be a lesson learnt as we were constantly reminded that even teachers who have been teaching for 40+ years have bad lessons and try things that don't always work.

What advice would you give to prospective trainee teachers?
Do it! I never thought I would look forward to coming into work so much. I would certainly recommend a school-based route, as we were exposed to a classroom environment a lot sooner than other trainees on uni-based courses. I can't recommend a career in teaching or Endeavour Learning enough!
