What inspired you to become a teacher?
My friends, family and colleagues have always commented on how well I explained things.
Why did you choose Endeavour for your teacher training?
I chose Endeavour out of some very good local providers of educational training because of its reputation and its values matched my own. I was looking for a SCITT as I have worked all my life and know that I learn quicker 'on the job' than in a classroom and i have wanted to have the full immersive experience in a school so I was fully aware of the job and its expectations. Having had an informal chat prior to applying it was clear the support structure that was in place and it reassured me to take the leap of faith.
What was the best thing about the programme?
I can't pin it down to one thing.. The support provided has been incredible. The mix of theory, research, teaching and reflections has been really well constructed. The people.... both in the programme (Pam and Roger) and in the placements are so dedicated, even when it has been hard, they are all striving for the best for you.
What impact has the SCITT had on your career as a teacher?
The SCITT has opened my eyes to so much in regards to how people learn, what we need to consider when teaching a subject, the importance of using research-evidenced strategies, and the importance of being adaptable to survive. I feel the SCITT experience has given me a clear trial run of my ECT year so anything which happens is going to be less likely to phase me because of this experience. It was trial by fire but with a fire-engine following me close behind for when those fires inevitably overwhelmed me.

What advice would you give to prospective trainee teachers?
Do it! .. the SCITT will give you a clear experience of what teaching is and the day-to-day reality of the job and it will help build you up to success if you embrace it wholeheartedly.
