What inspired you to become a teacher?
My own art teacher inspired and encouraged me in later life to pursue a teaching career. I have always enjoyed working with children and hopefully becoming a role model for the next generation.
Why did you choose Endeavour for your teacher training?
I chose the Endeavour SCITT programme as I found the idea of being school centered immediately, extremely appealing. Coming from a design role and working within an office for 5 years, plus with covid, I felt to really excel and get the best and most experience possible this was the perfect route for me.
What was the best thing about the programme?
There were many! I would say having mentors and supporting faculties that didn't make you feel like a 'student'. I was made to feel like a colleague immediately and that really helped with my confidence.
What impact has the SCITT had on your career as a teacher?
It has given me such a wide range of experiences and topics within my subject. Working in very contrasting schools has really helped me develop my professional practice and ultimately has landed me a job!

What advice would you give to prospective trainee teachers?
1. Try and make contact with mentors prior to starting to ask for schemes of work! Especially for an art role - each faculty has different curriculums so having that head start in understanding and starting to think how you would teach the subjects.
2. Don't be afraid to ask questions! It is easy sometimes to forget that whilst teaching, you are still a student. It's okay to make mistakes and ask and ask and ask.
Anything else you would like to say about your time with Endeavour Learning SCITT?
This experience comes with highs and lows, just like life! The highs far out weigh the lows and you have such a supportive SCITT cohort around you which really does help! I know I have made some friends for life!
